New Opportunities
DAK Ministry Update December 31, 2013Dear Friends,
First of all, the latest news hot off the press! On December 28, 2013, the General Assembly meetings of National Bible Translation and Literacy Association of Burkina Faso (ANTBA-BF) elected a new board. Yep, that's me as part of the new board, as assistant general secretary. I am about as surprised as you might be!

Pictured at left is the new board chairperson, Dr Tassere Emmanuel Sawadogo, saying a few words, surrounded by his team. To the right, the pastors in the assembly are laying hands on us and praying for us. On the far left is Pastor Siaka Traore, president of the Burkina Mennonite Church. Mennonite Pastor Calixte Bananzaro is third from the left. Pastor Abdias Coulibaly is on the far back right (I think!)
I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve ANTBA in this way. At the same time, it will be a huge challenge because ANTBA is currently going through a profound financial crisis. So I will now ask you to join us in prayer for this vital ministry of Bible translation in Burkina.
Many of you know that Daniel was the first director of ANTBA until 1998, and the Sicite translation project that we initiated under the Mennonite Church become one of the first ANTBA translation projects, shortly after our wedding in 1993. This is my first opportunity to serve ANTBA since 2002.
What a way to end the year 2013!
Here are a few more highlights from the year
- Daniel completed his term as President of the Apostolic Mission Church but remains active with our church plant, teaching at the Apostolic Mission Bible Schools, and undertaking numerous personal projects.
At our church
Daniel and Anne with friend Dayle Lauber Our new cement floor! Our church finally has a cement floor! Daniel decided it was important enough to go into a little debt and get it done for Christmas. Otherwise we would have a dusty worship service in this dry season.
I made three visits to Jos, Nigeria this past year, checking the work of the Ngas translation team and teaching at the Biblical Law workshop. Thankfully, the Boko Haram people no longer terrorize Jos, but there is still bloodshed in north-eastern Nigeria.
With translation teams
Checking Jeremiah in Dakar Visit with Ngas Bible Translation committee in Jos - In Senegal, we checked the book of Jeremiah in Wolof in a two week marathon! Very few mother tongue speakers are believers, and yet Wolof is the major language in the country, still awaiting their first complete Bible. I felt honored to be able to contribute to this effort.
Bible Translation Conference 2013
Showing off my WordShare resources What a wonderful surprise to be invited to Dallas, Texas for the Bible Translation Conference at the SIL centre in October, and for the Translators Notes Workshop. So exciting to mingle with like-minded people from all over the world. More than one person copied my WordShare resources on their thumb/flash drives, and signed up for more when they come out.
Translator's help for 2 Samuel!
Getting equipped to write Translator's Notes workshop in Dallas
Thanks again for your prayers and your support all of you! It is so wonderful to have people who believed that our ministry was worth their contribution. For the year 2013, our support went up to 56% of our intended goal, up slightly from last year. The Lord has provided.
Blessings to all of you in this come year 2014. Remember God is with us all the time!
